The small town of Montefalco is known for the San Francesco Church, one of the most popular museums in Umbria. The church houses a Renaissance-era fresco of the life cycle of its patron saint, Francis of Assisi, also of Umbrian origin. The fresco was painted by muralist Benozzo Gozzoli in the festive Gothic style of the mid-1400’s.
